The Range of LS Gliders

With its’ beginnings in the early seventies, LS quickly established itself as a competition pilot’s brand.  The LS1f was a highly regarded Standard Class sailplane in European competitions.  The LS3 won more that it’s share of contests at International level.  When the LS4 appeared it was regarded as the best of it’s kind and has a solid following even today.  The LS6 sat at the top of 15m class for many years.  Then came the LS8, simply the best Standard Class sailplane the gliding world had seen.  The LS8 sold in large numbers and dominated the competition scene.  Highly developed racing sailplanes can be a little more difficult to fly but the LS8 (like the LS4) is used as a club glider in many European clubs.

LS joined forces with DG Flugzeugbau in 2003 when economic difficulties forced the closing of its’ Egelsbach facility.  Following the move to DG’s new Bruchsal factory, the LS8-s (DG’s designation for the DG built glider) went into production.  A single prototype of the LS10 existed at that time.  A second prototype was completed by DG.  These gliders have shown that the LS10 is a competitive sailplane in the 18m class and is now going into full production.

The LS4 and possibly the LS6 are to be built by AMS-Flight in Slovenia.  DG and AMS-Flight have had a highly successful business relationship going back many years when the company was part of Elan.
